10. Night Train

// April 6th, 2009 // Writing On The Wall

I had the lyrics for this song lying around for almost 10 years. When I started out the RPM-Challenge, I printed out all of the old lyrics and text snippets I could find on my computer, for inspiration and to focus my songwriting around.

This particular piece was written by Tricia Tenpenny back in the Tumbleweed Trail days, when we used to collaborate a lot. It turned out it fit almost perfectly for a song idea I had. This is a slow and moody song, and the melancholy of the words made it a perfect fit.

The song features Steve Gintz on trumpet, which was a great addition to the sound. Other musicians are Janne Hedlund playing drums and Robert Wirensjö on piano and organ.

Night Train
(Tricia Tenpenny, Jana Persson)

Nothing seems to stay the same
No one seems to know my name
Shadows slip into the darkness
Just before I glimpse a face
And no one seems to know my name

Having lost the light of day
Colors fade to shades of gray
I wait for the train to come and
Take me to a safer place
And colors fade to shades of gray

All aboard, all aboard
The night train to Forever
Final call for the journey
To the end of the line

No wise words are carved in stone
No one’s heart is all their own
There’s one small sweet soul I can’t
Abandon to the lonely cold
Cause no one’s heart is all their own

Weary as I am, I know
It’s not time for me to go
Some of us are bound to earth by
Love returned a thousand fold
And it’s not time for me to go

All aboard, all aboard
The night train to Forever
Final call for the journey
To the end of the line
